Spire Appeal

PDF Print Email
Written by Margaret Hobbs

altMembers of St Thomas's have been joining in to help raise the funds to replace our spire - the local landmark which had to be taken down because it was unsafe.  These pictures are from a fabulous Quiz Night which Luigi Sterlini organised for the Spire Appeal, which raised nearly £850.

The next opportunity coming up is a chamber concert to be given on Saturday 26th November, organised by James Murray, our Director of Music.  He has many talented friends who studied with him at the Royal Academy of Music, so this will also be a quality event to support. The programme is to include Beethoven Symphony No.7 and Haydn Double Horn Concerto. Tickets available from the church office or on the door; £10 adults, £8 concessions.

Harvest

Written by Christopher Hobbs
harvestOur Harvest Festival took place on Saturday 1st and Sunday 2nd of October.

At the Harvest Supper £320 was raised for Tear Fund, to be used in relief of poverty. Much of the money raised was from an auction of goods and talents.

On the Sunday morning a large crowd including many guides and brownies donated goods for the Whitechapel Mission in east London. The Flower Guild had done some beautiful arrangements; the choir sang a special anthem; we sang some songs from the Holiday Club about Jesus the Super-saviour, and the gospel of sins forgiven; and Tom Brown told us of Jesus' feast - telling us about the time when Jesus changed the water into wine.

Thanks be to God for his harvest.

Greek Night 2011

Our Greek Night was held on the 17th of September.

We specially welcomed Pavlos and Stephanos Karageorgi. Pavlos spoke some words about relating to God as a friend, and 17 year old Stephanos played the bouzouki, the violin and the guitar, and he sang.

G'day from the Vicarage - Sept 2011

atc northern area bandDearly Beloved in the Lord,

I write this on the day that the Deputy Lieutenant for Enfield and the Mayor of Enfield were guests at our morning service. For the last year or so, I have been the Padre of Air Cadet Squadron 2473 (Southgate and Highlands) which first became a squadron in 1968, but has never had a banner. So this morning a new banner was dedicated in our service, with thirty cadets, and another 15 in the Northern Region Band also present, and an Air Vice Marshall, Two Group Captains, and Two Wing Commanders. Afterwards the Squadron Committee provided light refreshments in the hall.

Next Saturday we are having a Harvest Supper with Auction of Goods and Talents in Aid of Tear Fund. One of the things you can bid for may be Kaushal preparing a curry in your home! The next day is the Harvest Service, with gifts for the Whitechapel Mission, and we hope to have a parade of Guides and Scouts.
