Dear Beloved in the Lord,
Farewell and Welcome
As is usual there is a turn over of staff as the summer holidays approach. After three years Tom Brown will be leaving us to work for a church in south London. He is continuing to seek God’s will concerning ordination. Tom has been a very committed member of staff and someone who teaches with real skill.

What a lovely day we had on Saturday - and the crowds turned out to enjoy it all.
St Thomas's and Oakwood Baptist Church collaborated to put on a street party, featuring two quality musical acts (a brass band, and our home-grown soul band), three bouncy castles, free cream teas and hot dogs for the kids, bibles, and several community stalls. We were honoured by the Mayor opening the party as she cut a special cake made by Jean Styles.
Our thanks to all those who helped bake, set up, steward, serve, entertain and clear up afterwards. Not to mention those who planned it all!

Church goers and the local community helped to raise over £40,000 to have the new spire made, after the original became structurally unstable after 40 years, and had to be taken down in January last year.

Any guesses what they were singing? Mine is half way through 'Our God is a Great Big God'. 186 children attended this year's holiday club for at least one of the four days, and we had a great time hearing how Jesus knew his Destination, and - unlike us - was never Distracted. He stuck to God's plan with Determination, and achieved the Decoration of God's Champion. Of course there were also songs, crafts, quizzes, games, and drama - many with an olympic theme. We are happy that many of the children come regularly to our mid-week clubs, and would be glad to see even more of them in our Sunday Clubs.
