dec2010bIf you live in Oakwood you will have noticed that the cross was removed from the spire some months ago.  But this week has seen a further demolition job - the spire is now a stump!

The steeple had been swathed in scaffolding with the intention of replacing a few rotten timbers and reinstating the cross - but as the steeplejacks investigated, they discovered that foot after foot of the structure was rottenInside the spire, and so section by section it had to be sawn off, as it was in fact dangerous.

So we are left with a stump, a large bill, and no-where to put the cross unless we can raise many thousands of pounds for a new steeple.

In the meantime, the congregation have been challenged by our sermon series in 1 Timothy to BE the pillar which lifts up the cross in our community - to be showing Jesus to our neighbours by the way we live.
