Our Mission statement: Making Jesus Known

We believe in what God has done for the world in the person and work of Jesus Christ

(Acts 4:12 There is salvation in no one else, for there is no other name given by which we must be saved.)

We believe the church is meant to lead others into being disciples of Jesus Christ

(Matthew 28:19,20 Go therefore and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son of the Holy Spirit, and teaching them to obey everything that I have commanded you.)

We believe the Holy Spirit has been given to us to help us bear witness to Jesus Christ

(Acts 1:8 you will receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you; and you will be my witnesses in Jerusalem, in all Judea and Samaria, and to the ends of the earth.)

We believe the Bible is the source of truth, and the authority for our work.

(John 17:17 Your word is truth. 2 Tim 3:16,17 All scripture is inspired by God and is useful for teaching, for reproof, for correction, and for training in righteousness, so that everyone who belongs to God may be proficient, equipped for every good work.)

AIMS

Worship

We aim corporately and individually to meet with God through his word, and to live in prayerful awe of him. We will offer a variety of types of service.

Fellowship

We aim to grow in our love for one another, and to be committed to Christian friendship. We will encourage small group meetings for Bible study, prayer and mutual support. We aim to put on social events for people to meet and make friends. We want to be helping those in need, and to be united in the gospel.

Discipleship

We aim to teach God’s values and priorities so that our lives are changing to be more in line with what God reveals for us in his word.

Ministry

We aim to enable people to serve God. We will aim to help people realise and develop their gifts within the church family and beyond.

Evangelism

We aim as a church to tell others about Jesus Christ, and to help each other to do this individually. We aim to offer groups for people to explore the Christian faith together. As well as praying for our neighbourhood, we aim to pray for mission work in other places and to commit ten percent of our stewardship resources to it.

Specifically, we aim in the next five years (2007-2012)

To reach more people with the gospel, especially being aware of the different ethnic groups in Oakwood.

To be equipped to disciple more people, especially by seeking to have an Assistant Minister;

To reach out to and disciple teenagers by resourcing a full time post in youth work;

To have a mid week activity for elderly people which is evangelistic and encourages believers.

To have a structured system of pastoral care, using home groups and with a Caring for Others Group.

To have a Christian men’s group;

To be releasing the Vicar and ministers for other ministry by relieving them of unnecessary administration.
