Sunday services

The best way to get to know us at St Thomas Oakwood is to come to one of our Sunday services. We hope that all our services will be helpful to you, whether you’re already following Jesus or just wanting to find out more about him.

At the heart of each service is a reading and sermon from the Bible, and there is also a mixture of hymns and more modern songs, prayers, news, baptisms and the sharing of the Lord's Supper. We won’t ask you to say or pray anything you don’t believe, or force you to do anything you’re not comfortable doing.

The church is on the corner of Prince George Avenue and Sheringham Avenue - you can see it as you come down the hill from Oakwood tube station.

The Sunday services are as follows:

10.30am Morning Service

This time together is designed for everyone, with a mixture of familiar hymns and more modern songs. Afterwards we enjoy tea and coffee in the church hall.

Children up to age 14 stay with us for the family-friendly start of the service, during which there is usually a children’s talk, then leave for Bible teaching, crafts, games, music and prayer in friendly small groups:

  • Creche (for the under 3’s) - runs throughout the service; there is also a ‘crying room’ at the back of church with a sound relay of the service.
  • Stepping Stones (age 3 up to 5 years)
  • Scramblers (for children in Y1-3)
  • Explorers (for children in Y4 -6)
  • Pathfinders (for children in Y7-Y9)

New children are welcome at any time, even if just visiting. If you have any queries please contact us for more information.

Around school holidays we run All Age Services. The children stay in church the whole time (though we still provide a creche); the talk is geared towards all ages and the service lasts about 50 minutes.

Once a month we share the Lord’s Supper together as part of the service.

3.30pm (monthly) Bouncy Church

Bouncy Church is not running for the time being.

Every month, we get our bouncy castle out in the church building! We rotate around bouncing, craft and active games in different age groups. Then we all come together for some singing, a bible story and snacks! It's open to all families with children of primary school and pre-school ages. It's from 3.30-4.45pm.

5:00pm Informal Evening Service (monthly)

A once-a-month smaller, more informal, cafe-style, 'chatty' service with youth band and more contemporary music. Each service includes a teaching seminar on a different aspect of Christian truth or living. After the service the older teenagers eat together in the church hall; tea, coffee and hot chocolate served in the church building for everyone else.
